Malay Wedding Planning 101

Congratulations on your engagement! As a pengantin to be the excitement of it all is tremendous. Wedding gown, themes, colours, flowers and the ring?? But before you allow yourself to drift off leafing through page after page of dreamy wedding magazines, there is a lot of things to consider and do for your wedding and not to mention the paper work that goes along with it. Your wedding day is Your day, and of course you want it to be perfect. But with so much to do while balancing your prior responsibilities (ie work!) it can definitely be stressful and overwhelming.

To make wedding planning smoother, consider grouping all your tasks under these few categories.

Venue

- consider your options, where is convenient? Is there a location that you have been eyeing on? Book it as soon as possible so that you won't get disappointed. The more famous venues are usually booked a year ahead!
-for even easier planning, consider venues that offer packages on food, pelamin, flowers etc.

Guest list

- first discuss and identify with your parents  if you would like a sit down dinner wedding or a "running" wedding.
- group people into must invite, would like to invite and maybe
- straight away create the seating arrangement if u are organizing a sit down dinner.

Entertainment

- consider what kind of entertainment would be suitable for your wedding. There are so many options in the market now so do some research because the last thing lousy entertainment can ruin the whole wedding.
- entertainment also includes the Emcee. Choose and book your emcee as soon as possible. Family or friends can act as the emcee too, this will not only cut costs but can create a more intimate atmosphere.

Paperwork
- The marriage course or kursus kahwin is quite a tedious must do. A two day course taking up your precious weekend is best done earlier on. Don't leave this to the last minute.

Pelamin and catering and photographer

-Consider a wedding planner who can do all of your big day's hassles, but u can cut serious costs doing it on your own with the help of your loved ones. 
-Identify and choose which pelamin designer, caterer  and photographer that best suits your taste.
- A professional photographer is a must have. Your beautiful wedding only lasts a day, so let the professional capture all your precious moments. Try not to rely on friends and family, they want to be a part of your big day too!

Dress, hair and make up



-The most important highlight of the night is you! So have fun browsing through weddingphotos for inspiration. But make sure to book your dress maker and make up artist atleast 6 months before your wedding. For make up always request a trial run.

Invitations, wedding favours and decor

The invitations, wedding favours and your overall decor should reflect your wedding theme and personality. Take your time to choose your best option while keeping in mind your budget. Best to bring a family member along for opinions.
