Haneesa: Feathered Pin

Hi guys J

I’ve been wanting to make this next project of mine for quite some time now, and I’m so excited to show it to you guys. One of the main reasons why I make my own stuff is because I like things customized the way I want it. When it comes to fashion especially, I have these ideas in mind that are just booming everyday. A lot of times, these accessories simply have to be made because I just can’t find them anywhere in shops and malls.
Today I will be making a feathered pin, which is made of these items: some feathers on chains and a round head pin- it’s too gorgeous and too easy to make. I will also explain the many different ways you can use it at the end of the article.

First, I got a pair of DIVA earrings with feathers to make the pin. This is a bonus for me, because these earrings were the last pair. The colour and length was just perfect and I knew I had to have them the moment I saw them. The best part was… they were on sale.

Next, I took the earrings apart. This, to me, is the fun part because I got to use my new tools J I recently got a new mini combination plier and a mini round nosed plier…and I absolutely love them (DIY nerd alert).
Anyway, I used the combination plier to separate the earring hook from the chain. This was pretty easy and this time, I didn’t have to ruin my fingernails to bend the small pieces ;)

After that, I had to prepare a pin to link the feather and chains to. I got a normal round head pin and proceeded to cut off (only) the head.

Now it was time to use my other new tool- the round nosed plier. I used it to twist the top of the pin into a loop. Then I just continued to link the chain to pin- at this point I’m practically done.

This next step is optional. I took the second earring and removed one feather and linked that end to the pin I already have. Now I have three feathers on my pin and the difference in the length makes it even more prettier.
Voila! I love the way the feathers fall on my shawl and they add a soft touch to any kind of ensemble you are wearing.

Now the pin might be a little impractical especially if it is worn on something other than a shawl, so you can always replace it with a flat back pin. You can use some craft glue to fix the chain and the flat back pin together- just make sure you cover the entire surface of the flat back either with the chain itself or with another piece.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this tutorial J Have fun with your new pin, and don’t forget to comment on this post if you like it!
X,
Haneesa
